Le récit du Chant de Salomon (1977)1, troisième roman de Toni Morrison, après l'OEil le Plus Bleu (1970) et Sula (1974), s'articule autour de la recherche de ses racines et de son identité de Macon Dead III, alias Milkman. Parallèlement à cette histoire centrale, se développent
celles de Pilate sa tante, de sa soeur Corinthians, et de sa cousine Hagar. Ces histoires individuelles sont, de temps à autre, émaillées d'épisodes de la vie de ses parents : son père Macon Dead II et sa mère Ruth Foster.
The novel of Chant de Salomon (1977)2, third fiction of Toni Morrison, after l'OEil le Plus Bleu (1970) and Sula (1974), is about the search by Macon Dead III of his roots and of his identity, alias Milkman. Boarding this central story are presented the lives of his aount Pilate,
his sister Corinthians, and his cousin Hagar. These stories are from time to time, cut with some episodes of his parent's lives : his father Macon Dead II and his mother Ruth Foster.
