Epidemiological, clinical and prognosis of acute poisoning with medicines and other chemicals in mali

To study the epidemiological, clinical and development alpoisoning, It was a prospective study non-exhaustive, multi-center, over a period of 12 months from October 2009 to November 2010 was made. Were this study involved patients admitted to health facilities UHC Gabriel Toure, Health Center of Reference (CSREF) Commune IV and V for acute intoxication with drugs and other chemicals without distinction of race, age, or sex. Data collection was made from a survey sheet for each individual patient, including the identity of the respondent, mode of admission, the circumstances of onset, the patient, identification of the product under investigation, presentation of the product, associated signs, treatment and become of the patient. 160 cases of poisoning have been identified.The age groups most represented were 0 to 4 years and 20 to 24 years with respectively 35.00% and 17.50%. In 69.35% of cases, the mode of occurrence was accidental. The overdose was the most complained (53.75%) with in head chloroquine (38.41%) followed by paracetamol (15.0%). The digestive and neurological disorders dominated the clinical picture with respectively 40.90% and 32.50%.The outcome was positive in 99.40%. Poisoning is common, the clinical presentation varied, mortality remains low.Downloads
