Abstract

Introduction: Antiretroviral therapy aims for deep and lasting suppression of HIV replication and the restoration of immunity. In Mali, 89% of PLHIV were on ARVs in September 2018. The Counseling and Care Unit (USAC) of the communal health district IV had 1962 patients on ARVs by the end of 2018. The objective was to analyze the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy in PLHIV aged 18 and over on ARVs in district IV of Bamako in 2019. Material and methods: We analyzed the retrospective data of PLHIV on ARVs from November 2006 to May 2019. Three hundred eighty eight (388) files were selected by simple random sampling. Results: The median age of our respondents was 38 years old. We found a median follow-up of 5.4 years. The percentage of patients with normal CD4 increased from 14 to 51.4%. That of patients with undetectable viral load (CV) increased from 7 to 86.7%. The median CD4 value more than doubled (223 to 508 cells / mm3) and that of the viral load decreased by about 99% (88079, 5 to 0 copies / ml). The median patient weight increased by 7 kilograms during treatment. Conclusion: The care of PLHIV with antiretroviral is satisfactory at the USAC district health district IV. However, it is important to make the means of biological monitoring permanently accessible.
