Abstract

Introduction: In Mali, malnutrition remains a concern with peaks of admission observed after mass campaigns and periods of childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and malaria. This finding motivates the realization of this study on the evaluation of the nutritional status of children from 02 to 59 months hospitalized. Material and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study including 110 children from 02 to 59 months was carried out. Anthropometric data from children were analyzed on ENA for SMART and SPSS 20, multiple logistic regression was used to identify the factors associated with malnutrition. Results: The majority of children 45.4% were aged 07-24 months. About 55.5% of the parents were 15 to 25 years old. Parents were mostly multiparous 40% and married 90.9%. The prevalence of acute, chronic and global malnutrition was 49.1%, 52.7% and 42.1% respectively. Incorrect vaccination (OR=1.24), primary education level (OR=1.36), the unavailability of drinking water (OR=1.34) were the determining factors of malnutrition. The pathologies associated with malnutrition were gastroenteritis 45.4% of the cases and acute respiratory infections in 38.6%. The evolution was favorable for 92.7%. Conclusion: The prevalence of acute, chronic and global malnutrition was high. The study found many determining factors that merit specific interventions
