Abstract

Introduction: Poor nutrition in pregnant and
breastfeeding women can have serious repercussions on
their offspring as well as on themselves. The objective of
this study was to evaluate the nutritional status of
breastfeeding women seen at the reference health center
(CSRéf) of Kalabanccoro. Method: The study, carried out
from June to August 2022, was cross-sectional and
descriptive. Convenience as a technique made it possible
to identify targets. The individual interview and
anthropometric measurements made it possible to collect
the data. Nutritional status was assessed using mid-upper
arm circumference. The parameters studied were
Consumption and Dietary Diversity Scores (SCA, SDA),
socio-demographic characteristics. The Chi2 or Fischer
Exact, with a threshold set at 5%, was used for the
relationships between the variables. Results: A total of 97
breastfeeding women were enrolled, with 50.5% of whom
were between 20 – 39 years old; 44.3% pauciparous;
81.4% married. The nutritional status was normal in
80.4%. The SCA was acceptable in 67% and the SDA was
good in 87.6% of breastfeeding patients. Pauciparity with
39.74% and p = 0.004, had a significant link with nutritional
status. The age group (20 to 39 years, p=0.000) had an
influence on the SDA. As for SCA, the factors found were
marital status (married=89.23%, p=0.008), poverty
(39.74%, p=0.0001). Conclusion: The breastfeeding
women in this study generally have a normal nutritional
and dietary status. This level must be maintained by
intensifying communication for behavior change.
