Abstract

Introduction: Neonatal tetanus is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality in developing countries.

Methodology: There were 3 cases of neonatal tetanus hospitalized in the neonatology of the Mali hospital from January 2017 to July 2018.

Results: The newborns were received for trismus. They were born vaginally after a poorly followed pregnancy. Their mothers were not vaccinated against tetanus. From the first week of life, they had fever and trismus. Under treatment, the first is cured after 15 days. The other two died from the first days of their hospitalization in a feverish hypertonic picture.

Conclusion: Neonatal tetanus is a serious vaccine-preventable disease still prevalent in developing countries.
