Abstract

Objective: to contribute to the fight against malaria through the quality control of mosquito nets impregnated with insecticide by the technique of high performance liquid chromatography to ensure their effectiveness in the prevention of malaria.

Material and Methods: The sampling consisted of a random cut of small pieces on the five sides of the mosquito net and then a cut of a model square of 10 x 10 cm. A total of four mosquito nets were analyzed. The equipment used for the analysis of the mosquito nets was high performance liquid chromatography coupled with a Diode Array Detector. The analytical method was based on a solid / liquid extraction with acetone as the extraction solvent for a period of two hours and then evaporating the extract to dryness. The dry extract was collected with 1 mL of Acetonitrile for analysis.

Results: All samples were polyester based except one which was polyethylene and weighed between 452.3 and 651.0 grams. The chromatographic conditions used made it possible to identify and assay Deltamethrin in the mosquito net samples at a retention time of 3.27 minutes. The different concentration ranges were proportional to the area of the peaks obtained. All nets were treated the same before moving on to assay and HPLC identification. One in four samples was under dosed and therefore non-compliant.

Conclusion: The method was set up for the identification and quantification of Deltamethrin in different mosquito net materials.
