Abstract

Abstract: the new SARS-COV-2, responsible for Covid-19, is a viral pathology which most often manifests itself by respiratory signs and fever. However, psychosocial disorders impact the daily lives of patients and other clinical manifestations are also reported. The aim was to describe the epidemiological-clinical profile and the psychosocial impact of patients hospitalized at the Cocid-19 treatment center of the CHU Gabriel Touré.
Patient and Method: this was a retrospective, descriptive study from April 1 to September 30, 2020 carried out in patients hospitalized in the Covid-19 treatment center for SARS-COV-2 infection with positive RT-PCR.
Results: we retained 28 patients during this period. These patients mostly resided in Bamako with 85.7%. The male sex was the most represented with 64.3%. The mean age was 49.1 years ± 17.9 years [14 and 88 years old]. Comorbidities were dominated by hypertension (39.3%) and diabetes (10.7%). Medical history was reported in 71.4% of patients and surgical history in 39.3%. The clinical manifestations were marked mainly by fever 57.1%, epigastralgia 53.6%, cough 50%, headache 25%, nausea/vomiting 25%, dyspnea 21.4%, anosmia 21 .4% and ageusia 14.3%. Psychosocial disorders were reported in 89.3% of our patients. These disorders were marked by stress 71.4% and insomnia 21.4%.
Conclusion: the epidemiological profile of Covid-19 patients was marked by male predominance. Fever, epigastralgia, cough, headache and nausea/vomiting were the main clinical manifestations. The psychosocial impact was dominated by stress. We recommend involving psychologists in the care of patients with Covid-19.
