Abstract

Introduction: The infections by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis B virus (HBV) as well as Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) are a major health problem worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of the triple infection by T.  gondii, HIV and HBV at the Chinese and Guinean friendships hospital of Kipé/Conakry. Material and Methods: This prospective study was carried out on 291 patients attending to our biomedical laboratory of Kipé/Conakry (HASIGUI) from June 18th, to October 18th, 2017. Results Toxoplasma gondii, HIV and HBV were detected in the sera of the patients by immunochromatographic methods and ELISA. HIV detection and its serotyping were processed by immunochromatographic methods. A total of 291 patients were included in the study.  The patients were aged from 1 to 72 years and the mean age was 38,37±10,45 years. Males were predominant (73,2%; n=213). Most of the patients were included in the range age of 35-44 years.  Only the HIV serotype 1 was detected and the prevalence of HIV among the patients was 6,2% (n=18), while the prevalence of HBsAg was 14,8% (n=43). For Toxoplasma gondii, the prevalence was 43,0% (n=125). Seroprevalence of the triple infection Toxoplasmosis/HIV/HBV was 3,1% (n=9). The prevalence of HIV/HBV co-infection was 10,0% (n=29) . Nearly 83,3% of HIV positive patients were Toxoplasma gondii positive (p=0,00). Although 67,4% of HBsAg positive were Toxoplasma gondii positive, while 100% of HIV/HBV co-infected patients were Toxoplasma gondii positive again. Conclusion: Our results showed that the seroprevalence (3,1%) of Toxoplasmosis/HIV/HBV triple infections must be considered as an important public health problem in Guinea
