Abstract
Introduction: Our main objective was to study the risks of exposure to HIV among adolescents and young people in Kolokani in the 2sd region of Mali. Material et methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study from April to September 2022. Adolescents and youth between the ages of 14 and 25 living in Kolokani and consenting to participate were included. Socio-demographic variables, habits/lifestyles, and sexual practices were studied. Results: In total 140 participants were included, 56.4% were male (sex ratio = 1.3), and with secondary school levels (60.7%). The majority (62.1%) were single. During sex, 39.3% did not use condom and 22.1% had sex with a new casual partner. Multi-partnership was rated by 18.6% and 26.4% practiced paid sex. Sex was anal by 7.9%. Some married couples (22.9%) had unprotected extramarital sex. Sex was practiced in a state of alcoholic by 11.4%. Sexually transmitted infections were reported by 27.1%. The HIV exposure risk score was high (13.57%) and extremely high (5.71%). There was a statistically significant association between high risk of HIV infection and age > 20 years (p=0.401), male sex (p=0.03), age range 22-25 years (p=0.041) and single status (p=0.041). Conclusion: The level of HIV exposure among young people and adolescents remains high in this locality. A strategy tailored to the target and local context must be implemented to reduce this exposure.
