Abstract

Introduction : Adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) represent all incidents occurring after
vaccination that cause concern. The rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines has sparked rumors and
worries. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the AIEs reported by health workers, in order to contribute
to the fight against vaccine hesitancy and the rumors caused. Design : We conducted a cross-sectional
study among healthcare workers who were vaccinated at the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital
Center COVID-19 vaccination center from June 14, 2021, to March 13, 2022. A univariate and
multivariate binary logistic regression with a statistical significance threshold of 0.05 was used to
identify associated factors. Results: The study involved 247 health workers, of whom 212 (32.8%)
presented at least one MAPI, with 210 minor and 2 major ones. The average age of the health workers
was 41.7±0.8 years. There were 174 male health workers, with a sex ratio of 2.4. Among them, medical
and paramedical staff numbered 157 (63.6%) and 90 (36.4%), respectively. The various AEFIs occurring in less than 24 hours were mainly headaches (51.8%), pain at the injection site (47.8%),
myalgias (44.1%), asthenia (42.5%), and fever (35.2%). In 1/3 of the cases, the AEFIs disappeared in
less than 24 hours. Health workers aged over 45 years (OR= 2.17[1-4.7], p=0.049) and females (OR=
3 .04[1.1-8.30], p=0.029) were associated with the occurrence of AEFIs. Conclusion : The study of
AEFIs related to COVID-19 vaccines in health workers is necessary to strengthen vaccine adherence
for better control of this Coronavirus pandemic
