Abstract

Purpose of work: The aim of our study was to monitor the rate of T lymphocytes CD4+ in patients infected with HIV in Ségou (Mali). Material and Methods: We recruited 270 patients infected with HIV. The T lymphocytes CD4 + is made by using a flow cytometer FACSCount. The T lymphocytes CD4+ count was made at the beginning then the 6th, 12th and 18th months of antiretroviral treatment. Results: Among 270 patients 193 (71.4%) were 25 to 44 years old. Of 270 patients, 190 (70%) are female. HIV-1 predominates in Ségou. At the 6th, 12th and 18th months of antiretroviral treatment our patients had, respectively, T lymphocytes CD4+ count between 200 and 350/µL at 54.3%, 74.5% and 77.4%. At 18 months, there was a significant difference between the mean rate of T lymphocytes CD4 + in patients with a rate between 200 - 350 at M0 and M18 (p <0.01). Conclusion: Antiretroviral treatment has improved the immune deficiency in our patients with an increase in the rate of the T lymphocytes CD4+. We recommend the use of FACSCount for the immunological monitoring in HIV infected patient in decentralized area.
