Abstract

On May 2012 we conducted a transversal and descriptive survey once in three schools in the urban commune of Sikasso. That survey aimed at studying the knowledge, the attitudes and the practice of the young students in relation to the TSI, HIV and the AIDS. The female students were more numerous (60.2%). The average age was 19.4 with 15 years old to 24 years old maximum. The majority (69.2 %) of the students had already heard about the TSI and the announced prevalence of TSI and/or the associated symptoms in the presence of TSI was estimated to 27.0 %. Most of the students, 97.9 %, had already heard about HIV and AIDS. Their main sources of information were: TV (93.3 %), radio (87.3 %) and schools (84.8 %) and they had good knowledge about AIDS. According to their attitudes, 39.1 % of students have said to have done the screening test among whom 97.8 % of boys and 95.6 % of girls have known their result. The majority of students, 97.1 % of girls and 94.7 % of boys knew that the self protects against HIV and AIDS among whom 59.5 % declared to have used it during their last sexual intercourses. They were 156, about 54 % of them had already had sexual intercourses among whom 22.9 % had done it with two sexual partners in the last twelve months. A large number of students (64.4 %) attended at least once to a sensitizing meeting concerning the TSI, HIV and AIDS.
