Abstract

Background: To test the contribution of fortified flour supplementation for people living

with HIV on antiretroviral treatment in Mali.

Methods: We conducted a longitudinal prospective study in 52 patients infected with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy. With the introduction of flour 'Misola', parameters at 3 months follow-up were: (weight / height), the rate of CD4 cell counts and blood.

Results: The majority of our patients were women (69%). The average age was 38

years with extremes of 20 to 58 years. The normalization of body mass index of J15 to

J60 was 100%. The increase in weight recovery was significantly (p = 0.0001). The

biological parameters were also increased at day 60.

Conclusion: The supplementation "Misola" flour seems to be a factor in weight gain early in PVIH ARV. We recommend a randomized study on a large sample to confirm these results.
