HEALTH ASSESSMENT OF SCHOOL CANTEENS IN THE DISTRICT OF BAMAKO AND ITS PERI-URBAN AREA IN 2017

Abstract

Abstract The question of food is at the center of the authorities' preoccupations. Food in school canteens can be the cause of health crises. This study aimed to assess the sanitary quality of food in school canteens in Bamako and the surrounding area. A random survey was conducted based on functional canteens. 350 schools meeting these criteria were selected, a sample of 35 schools. The results of the evaluation show that 68% of the actors do not know the existence of the regulations in this area, 30% of the cooks do not use soap to wash their hands after using the toilets, 60% of the food is kept in the open air, 36% of the canteens use well water as drinking water, 72% of the canteens show the presence of pests such as rats, cockroaches, flies, etc., 60% of the staff have not received training on Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), etc. The restoration in the school canteens is not very satisfactory and deserves a particular attention to avoid consequences on the health of the children Key words: Evaluation, School, canteen, Bamako.
