Abstract

Water is an indispensable resource for human activity. In Mali its demand increases significantly with the increase of the population. In Bamako the water needs have increased with the city extension. The population of the outlying districts of Bamako for their drinking water supply operates wells, boreholes, standpipes and other sources whose qualityis not always known. In Sénou, 76% of the population sources from wells, compared with 13% of boreholes and 11% of standpipes. A total of 159 samples were taken from each source 3 times and the mean was considered (30 wells, 12 wells and 11 standpipes) as a result of the study for three weeks. The bacteriological analyzes were carried out by the membrane filtration technique. The waters of the wells were by far the most used by the population of Sénou. The well water bacteriological analyzes showed 25/30 cases of non-compliance, i.e 83.3% for GAM, 29/30 or 96.7% for CT, 25/30 or 83.3% for CTT , 18/30, or 60% for E. coli and 14/30, or 46.7% for fecal streptococci. Boreholes showed non-compliance with TCs 3/12, i.e 25%. The waters of the fountains were all in conformity.
